Mocke claims Bay hat-trick (26 April 2011)

World Series and national champion Dawid Mocke claimed a hat-trick of titles by the narrowest of margins when he won the Surf Ski Classic at the 21st Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

Mocke was chased all the way by fellow Capetonians Jasper Mocke (25) and Tom Schilperoort (24) in the gruelling 26-kilometre event that took place in near-perfect paddling conditions off Hobie Beach.

Mocke and Schilperoort exited the water shoulder to shoulder with the 33-year-old (1:52:23) outpacing his younger rival (1:52:27) in the final dash to the line.

Defending Champion coming back (07 April 2011)

Two-times defending champion, Dawid Mocke has entered for the 2011 event. Also entered is his wife, Nicky, who is back in top form and winning numerous international events.

Both defending champions, Dawid Mocke (Cape Town) and Michelle Eray (PE) won the 2010 race in hot and calm conditions.

Some of South Africa's best paddlers were in Nelson Mandela Bay for some very exciting racing.

Prize Template revised (06 February 2010)

In light of the ICF confusion with regards to future World Series Surf Ski events, the organisers of the Nelson Mandela Bay Surf Ski Classic have withdrawn the World Series status and reduced the prize template to a more realistic pool of R46,000.

2010 dates set (11 December 2009)

The 2010 Nelson Mandela Bay Surf Ski Classic has been set for Friday 2nd April 2010.

"To have this World Series race secured for Nelson Mandela bid for a second year is a huge boost for our cities boost to be the Water Sport Capital of Africa", says Mike Zoetmulder, race director from Zports.

Entries will open on 1st January 2010.

Mocke wins first East Cape World Series race (14 April 2009)

Cape Townian Dawid Mocke won the inaugral Nelson Mandela Bay Surf Ski Classic in a time of 1 hour 54minutes and 4 secs from Matthew Bouman (1:54:53) and Hank McGregor (1:57:54).

Barry Lewin, Richard von Wildemann, Grant van der Walt, Brett Bartho, Hennie Roux, Steve Woods and Mark Lewin made up the top 10.

Michele Eray was the first lady in 13th place overall in a time of 2:12:54. Carol Joyce placed second with Natalie Veckranges in 3rd.

World Cup secured for Nelson Mandela Bay (20 January 2009)

Zports announce that they have secured Nelson Mandela Bay's first World Cup Surf Ski race!

The event will become the premier water sport event of the 2009 Splash Festival and organisers are hoping to attract over 200 surf ski paddlers from around the world to the Eastern Cape.

Two dates have been set aside for the World Cup race, with Friday 10th April 2009 the race date and Monday 12th a reserve date should decent weather not prevail.
